James Huniford
In 1984, James Huniford co-founded Sills Huniford Associates, which is based out of New York City. Today, it is the premier interior designing firm with clientele ranging from executives to A-list celebrities. James Huniford and Stephen Sills have utilized their talent to become a global entity and an influential force in the interior-designing realm. Their work has appeared in such distinguished publications such as Architectural Digest, Home and Garden, Esquire, and The New York Times. Their claim to fame is their ability to converge 17th, 18th, 19th, and 20th century furnishings in modern day settings that are usable on a daily basis. With over twenty years of experience, James Huniford has co-written Dwellings to influence budding designers and do-it-yourselfers that are remodeling their living quarters. The popularity of their design philosophy and book has led to their furniture line, which is suitably called Dwellings as well.
The success he has enjoyed through his occupation has not diminished his passion for public service. Huniford has felt a deep obligation to help those who are in need. The most effective means has been community development, which is why James developed “Design on a Dime” to raise money for housing, healthcare, and job training for homeless people primarily living with AIDs. The success of the 2005 show has made it an annual event that has helped to raise over $500,000 every year. Furthermore, Huniford is the Chairman and council member of the Direct Effect program, helping to fund researchers and facilities on the global war on AIDs. In addition, Huniford is a supporter of Family Pride and Hetrick Martin.
When James Huniford wants to relax, he is out visiting his favorite destinations, which include Southern France, India, and Egypt, where he enjoys reading books such as Vintage Egypt Cruising the Nile in the gold Age of Travel, Blooming, and The Nineties and Beyond.
Currently James Huniford can be found completing one of six new projects, such as the Connaught Hotel in London and the St. Regis Hotel in Washington, D.C.
